I invite you to step into an early May morning in Central Park, NY, and enjoy the soft colours of early spring. It’s a tranquil morning for us to savour, while the early morning joggers are on the move. Like Stanley Park back home in Vancouver, Central Park offers the peace and calm of nature within a bustling city.
In “Morning Calm, Central Park NYC”, the pond and the sky take up most of the scene, creating an expanse of serene beauty. A path and a row of trees enter from the bottom left. The scene celebrates the early cinnabar green tone of new spring growth, the glorious pink blossoms of Japanese Cherry Trees and the white blossoms of flowering dogwood along the trail. The subtle presence of city high-rises reminds us, like Stanley Park back home, that the park offers the peace and calm of nature within a bustling city.
The light of this early spring day is shimmering, with a cool cobalt blue hue moving towards a soft cerulean blue at the horizon. All the reflections of the trees and sky are perfectly visible in the still pond. Through delicate visible brushstrokes, I've allowed the soft, slightly warm imprimatura (toned canvas) to peek through, adding depth and luminosity to the muted greens, blush pinks, and gentle blues of the scene. The reflections in the water and the expansiveness of the sky are rendered with a patchwork of brushstrokes, contributing to the overall sense of atmospheric calm.
My hope was to convey the promise and optimism of a new day of exploration, inviting you to feel the crisp freshness and quiet beauty of this famous park.
