“Changing Weather, Cloudburst Mountain” captures my experience at Shadow Lake, looking toward Cloudburst Mountain, a location that continually inspires me with its ever-changing character. My dog Jasper accompanied me like he always does at this spot.

As mentioned in "Smoky Haze," the water levels fluctuate due to the lake being a headpond for power generation. On this particular day, the lake shimmered with an emerald green hue, a vibrant effect of light reflecting ff fine glacial rock flour suspended in the water—much like the famous Emerald Lake in Whistler BC.

One of the greatest challenges of painting en plein air is adapting to the unpredictable shifts in light and weather. A scene can go from subtle to dramatically bright in a heartbeat. This piece, I believe, directly reflects the urgency and exhilaration I felt trying to capture the changing scene before me.

Ultimately, whether the painting I create painting outdoors is good or not, the true reward lies in the rejuvenation that comes from simply being immersed in nature.
