A New Day—Waiting For the Kids

Oil on Stretched Canvas, 18”x24” - For Sale

“A New Day—Waiting for the Kids” features the Stockdale Homestead cabin on Pinecrest Lake, BC. Built in 1934, it holds the distinction of being the first cabin established on the lake. Today, it serves a simple purpose: storing community paddle boards.

I love experiencing the early morning solitude here. The only sounds are the natural ones—the buzzy songs of the Pine Siskins and the chick-a-dee-dee-dee alarm call of the Black-capped Chickadees. I wanted to capture the light at this time, with soft colours of pink, gold, and green reflecting off the water like a mirror. The dense, dark B.C. forest frames the small, rustic cabin, deepening that sense of quiet.

The title, though, points to the energy to come. This tranquil scene is a brief moment of calm before the lake gets busy. It’s the deep peace before the sound of children laughing—one of my favourite sounds—arrives with the families and their shovels and pails.

I hope this painting gives you that same sense of peace and the pleasant feeling of waiting for a great new day to begin in the Beautiful British Columbia nature.
