"Rainbow Mountain" captures a memory from a cold January day near Whistler, BC, painted on-site early in my artistic career. This was a day of practical lessons learned – primarily that crampons are an essential addition when your painting spot becomes increasingly slippery from pacing about in a small space!

Despite the chilly conditions, I was determined to convey the crispness of the air and the freshness of that overcast day. Painting snow can be wonderfully challenging, but I was able to see its subtle complexities. Look closely, and you'll discover that snow is rarely pure white; I saw delicate pinks and yellows  in the sunnier patches, contrasted by cool mauves and blues in the shadows. This piece embodies that direct observation and the joy of discovery.
