“A New Day—Waiting for the Kids” features the Stockdale Homestead cabin on Pinecrest Lake, BC. Built in 1934, it was the first cabin established on the lake. Today, it serves a simple purpose: storing community paddle boards.
I love experiencing the early morning quiet here. The only sounds are the birds—the buzzy songs of the Pine Siskins and the chick-a-dee-dee-dee call of the Black-capped Chickadees. I wanted to capture the light at this time, with soft colours of pink, gold, and green reflecting off the water like a mirror. Trees frames the small, rustic cabin, deepening that sense of quiet.
I wanted the title to point to the energy to come. This tranquil scene is a moment of calm neighbours come to enjoy the lake. It’s the peace before the sound of children laughing—one of my favourite sounds—arrives with the families and their shovels and pails.
I hope this painting gives you that same sense of peace and the pleasant feeling of waiting for a great new day to begin in Beautiful British Columbia.
