About Sandra

Sandra Hopley is a Vancouver, British Columbia-based oil painter with a dedication to capturing the essence of the natural world. Her passion, ignited by a childhood spent exploring the woods, deepened profoundly after moving to British Columbia:

"Hiking and exploring the wilderness, I knew I had to find a way to capture its beauty and magnificence."

Primarily a plein air painter, Sandra works directly within the landscape, aiming to transport viewers to unique scenes—from sweeping vistas to intimate forest corners. This outdoor practice is both challenging and deeply fulfilling:

"I feel so alive when I'm alone with my dog, painting the light and essence of the landscape before me."

Her plein air pieces are known for their freshness and vibrant sense of place, usually completed in a single session. This direct engagement with nature has uniquely equipped Sandra to infuse all her paintings, including those completed in the studio, with the authentic emotions she experiences on location.

Sandra is deeply grateful for her dear friend, teacher, and master oil painter, Liza Visagie. View Liza’s work at lizavisagie.com
